Despite its name lemon grass has no relation to lemon fruit.
The name relates entirely to the lemon-like smell that occurs if the grass is crushed.
Lemongrass is one of the botanical family of grasses. This is a grass-like herb or reed-like plant from the tropics of Asia with long, pointed leaves. These grow wispy from the usually dry, sandy soil. Mostly it grows in Southeast Asia.
The aroma is strong, tart and has a refreshing lemony taste. Can be enjoyed hot or cold.
Recommended preparation: 7g (about 6 teaspoons) to 1 litre of fresh boiling water. Brewing time: 5-8 minutes.
